| Cyril Kenneth Bird CBE (1887 - 1965) Biography Cyril Bird went under the pen name of Fougasse. He was born in London and was seriously injured at the battle of Gallipoli in the First World War. In 1916 he made his first contribution to Punch magazine, and went on to contribute to several British newspapers and magazines. Between 1937 – 1949, he became the art editor at Punch, and during the Second World War, offered his talents for free for the Ministry of Information, designing humorous propaganda posters, including the famous “Careless Talk Costs Lives”.
