| Percy Wyndham Lewis (1882 – 1957) Biography Percy was a British artist born in Canada (reportedly born on a yacht off Nova Scotia), and co-founder of the Vorticist movement of art. He was educated at Rugby, Warwickshire and later at the Slade School of Art in London, and spent most of the 1900’s travelling around Europe with a sojourn in Paris to study art. Percy wrote many novels, known for their satirical portrayals of Jews, homosexuals and lesbians. When he was enlightened to the reality of the Nazi treatment of Jews after a visit to Berlin in 1937, he composed an attack on anti-semitism: The Jews, Are They Human? (published, 1939; the title is modelled on a contemporary bestseller, The English, Are They Human?). The book was well received by The Jewish Chronicle.
